First Match Preview

As the sun raises it's sleep head from behind the clouds and the last wisps of winters cold touch depart this land, the once quiet green pasture known as "the cricket club" springs into life. Men dressed in white swarm the field as anxious spectators look on. All the planning, the scouting, the pre-season warm-ups are forgotten. THIS is what we've been waiting for. Simon Hole's mighty Shipton-under-Wychwood versus Darryl Wood's Oxford Downs. But who will secure victory first?

Match Type: League Cup
Match Venue: Shipton-under-Wychwood
Match Details: 1.00pm start
Players Arrival: 11.45am
First Victory Secured!

As the low sun setted sending sprawling shadows across the ground, team and personal victory were secured with a timed six into the new nursery ground (see image below). Congratulations to Simon Hole and his team, in particular to man-of-the-match Charlie Brain for his 102* and partnership breaking bowling, for victory against Downs in the League Cup. More details here, scorecard to follow.

Season Update

Dear All,

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the 1st league weekend.

Can I just remind everyone that subs are now due. It's £90 for Adults, £45 for Students or Under 18's. I know this probably sounds a lot of money to some if not all of you, so this year the club is offering a monthly payment scheme. Forms are available from the noticeboard at the club, or from our Secretary Justin Hemming. It's massivly important that we get this money rolling in, we have got lot's to pay for this season so we need everyone to be forthcoming with their subs, which leads me onto my next bit of news.

The Diggers Are In! Work on the new Nursery Ground Clubhouse started yesterday. We hope work will be finished by the end of the month, so the 3rd XI move from Burford is very close.

Finally... Baby News. It's with great pleasure I can announce the arrival of Jo and Craig Lamberst baby daughter Maya Lambert. Talk of wetting the babies head next Saturday night, so please can everyone make the effort to get out and get boozy... Green Goblin alert!

Finally, there has been a poor turn out on Thursday nights training sessions. We've put on this extra session as we thought people were keen. Can you all let me know if you want this extra session on as it's unfair on the three or four people that turn up each week but don't have enough to have a proper session.

Cheers
Late Night News

Well done to the 2's and 3's for starting the season in winning style. Apologies if this isn't entirely accurate but according to the scorecard I saw Paul Hemming had 81 and Christian Brain had 65 to take Shipton to 265-5 declared before bowling out Oxford & Bletchingdon for 150-something (Steven Carvey 3-fer, Jason Hunt 4-10). Jerry Senior was taken to hospital after being hit in the head whilst fielding close; we hope he's okay. In the 3's Russell Hayes scored a magnificent 108 and Josh Bishop jibbed it with 48. Matt Hemming ripped through the Challow with 4-20, supported by Ollie Cooper and Simon Dickens with 2 apiece. Last I heard of the 1's they were struggling at 126-6 chasing 226 after Jon Hartley had taken a 4-fer and Shaun Miller had taken a 3-fer. More details to follow in the morning.

NVKO Round 2 Success

A very one-sided affair saw Shipton amass 315 runs for the loss of 7 wickets with Jason Hunt scoring 119, his century coming from 62 balls, with Andrew Hemming (40), Steven Bates (skipper, 37) and Tim Senior (32) all providing support.
In reply Sandford St. Martin were reduced to 36-6 with Tom King taking 4, along with Chris Panter (2), before Charlie Brain (2) and Joe Barrett (2) completed the job, reducing Sandford to 107 all out.
We will face Kidmore End as Warborough & Shillingford pulled out on Friday with only 5 available players, according to Kidmore End's website, at Home on Sunday May 23rd.
The full draw can be found here.

We now face the winners of the Welsh section AWAY in two weeks time (more details to follow).

We are organising a coach for the trip to Wales a week on Sunday; the cost is going to vary slightly from £10-£13 a head, depending on numbers and size of coach we get.

If you are interested please let either myself or the Chairman know so we can tally numbers together this weekend.

If there is a high demand places will be given on a first come-first serve basis.

P.S. Congratulations to Joe Barrett on his recent exploits with Gloucester 2nd XI.

First Hat-Trick of the Season!

Congratulations to all 3 sides recording victories on the same day for the first time this season. The 1's chased down the 209 set by Bletchley Town with old heads Chris Panter and Shaun Miller knocking them off in a last-wicket stand after Steve Bates had earlier scored 75. The 2nd XI bowled Tiddington out for 194 after earlier setting 226 with APW taking 6-51. The 3rd XI completed the hat-trick with a composed victory over Thame 3's. After electing to bat Thame made 143 with Ivan Rivers taking 4-34 before Josh Bishop led the run chase with 52.

Victory on Sunday against Hopkinstown would give us an Away fixture against the Somerset Regional Champions Wembdon after they beat the Gloucestershire Regional Champions Appleby on Sunday.
4 wins out of 4!

Congratulations to all teams for an unbeaten weekend!

The 1st XI beat an under-par Downs in the league with three players making it past 30 and Shaun Miller and Craig Lambert taking 3-fers. The 2nd XI had a slightly closer 5 wicket victory over Nondies with a Jason Hunt 3-fer and Jerry Senior 34 being the highlights. And the 3rd XI had a comfortable victory over Challow, bowling them out for 78 with Matt Hemming (4-fer) and Andrew Stone (3-fer) taking the headlines before Josh Bishop (38) saw them home.

On Sunday we had a magnificent victory over Hopkinstown in the NVKO with Steve Bates (88), Jason Hunt (67) and Andy Hemming (42) setting 272-7. Hopkinstown had a bright start but were soon pegged back with 4-fer for Jason Hunt and 3-fer for Skipper Paul Hemming. We will be away to Wembdon in Somerset on Sunday.

NVKO Progress - We're In The Quarters People!

We will be hosting either Troon or Lewdown in the Quarter-Finals of the National Village Knockout in two weeks after the 1st XI demolished Wembdon by 120 runs. Shipton were inserted by the opposition and made 272, thanks to Steve Bates (93), Jason Hunt (70) and Tim Senior (37). In reply Wembdon were never really in the hunt, but at 4 down looked to be batting their overs out when Paul Hemming took 5-fer to clean them up. The Skipper in fact saw 4 wickets fall in one over, including a run out, and finished the innings with a sharp caught and bowled.

**** UPDATE: We will be hosting TROON *** Click Here for Oxford Mail report
